Community Climbs
Meaning making in Climbing!
We focus on working together with community groups on sharing stories of what climbing means for people, as we all have a different focus. We want the climbing community to be more diverse to share a deeper understanding of what climbing brings to and takes from different communities and what can be done to make it better for the world!
White cis males are most heavily represented in climbing spaces and the outdoors in general and so their narrative of what climbing means and how it should be done is the most prominent. There are huge benefits to creating more diverse spaces to include women, Black people, people of Colour, people with conditions which affect their physical or mental health or capacity to climb/access climbing, and people of the LGBTQ+ community.
A more diverse community will create different perspectives, approaches to climbing, help develop the sport that we love in positive ways, as well as encourage others within the minority groups to give climbing a go! We want to take what action we can to create a safe space for people to explore climbing outside.
Free sessions for adults affiliated with organisations working with groups who are not represented strongly within the climbing community.
